Additional Information

Reflexology dates back more than five thousand years. There is evidence to suggest this therapy existed in India, Egypt and Japan, although it is widely thought to be an ancient Chinese belief. A pressure point massage is performed on specific areas of the feet known as reflex points/zones. The theory is, these reflex zones relate to every organ and system in the body. This stimulates the body to help itself by unblocking poor energy thus stimulating the flow of Chi, improving sluggish circulation and aiding relaxation and calm. There are many benefits of reflexology; as well as being an enjoyable, deeply relaxing treatment, it has a knock on effect of calming the mind, body and soul as a whole.

When life is particularly stressful, you’re experiencing pain and/or have health concerns, an initial course of 6 treatments is recommended, starting weekly, moving to fortnightly, followed by monthly maintenance appointments. When using Reflexology as a preventative healthcare option, monthly treatments are recommended. However, life always has its ups and downs and you will know yourself, if you feel out of balance and require some relaxation to reset your system and regain wellbeing. Reflexology can be enjoyed simply when you wish to have it.

For 24 – 48 hours following a treatment you may experience some symptoms known as a healing crisis. These symptoms include feeling fatigued, heightened emotions, increased urination and bowel movements, increased thirst and cold/flu like symptoms. These symptoms are normal during the healing process and can be a sign that the treatment is taking effect as the body aims to clear blocked energy and re-balance itself.

Reflexology cannot claim to treat, cure or detect any medical conditions although there is plenty of anecdotal evidence from people who have tried it and found true benefit and relief.

Reflexology is not recommended if any of the following apply: broken or inflamed skin, fungal/bacterial/viral infections.
