Pre-Treatment Advice
Avoid hot baths, heat treatments or sunbeds directly before treatment
Do not apply oils or body creams to the area on the day of the treatment
Regular exfoliation and moisturisation helps prevent ingrowing hairs
Exfoliate the day before a wax treatment (body only, not face)
Regular waxing optimises results. Irritation is minimised as skin becomes more accustomed
Wear loose comfortable clothing. With reference to bikini waxing, avoid wearing your best briefs, older high leg ones are more suitable
Post-Treatment Advice
Avoid heat treatments and sun exposure for a minimum of 24 hours
Do not use any products on the waxed area for 24 hours
Do not exfoliate for at least 48 hours
Do not go swimming for 24 hours
Sweat, friction and bacteria can increase the risk of irritation. Refrain from exercise for 24 – 48 hours
Maintain a consistent and regular waxing schedule
Additional Information
Waxing results can last from 2 – 6 weeks depending on the individuals hair growth rate, medication, the time of year and the consistency of waxing treatments. Shaving in between treatments will strengthen the hair growth. On average you must have at least three weeks of hair growth (i.e. hair is one-eight of an inch long). If hairs are too short, they may break and are impossible to wax. Your first wax will remove the majority of hair that has grown above the skin surface. As hairs grow in a cycle of three different growth stages, your next few waxes will remove the hairs that were too short or growing just below the skin surface but have now sprouted above. After 3 or 4 consecutive wax treatments the hair growth cycle becomes synchronised, meaning all or most of the hairs are at the same stage of growth. “When hairs grow together they get removed together”, resulting in longer lasting results and smoother skin.
For the majority of clients, waxing is a perfectly safe and convenient form of hair removal. It is important to be aware of the effects of certain medications. Please see advice below.
Strip Wax procedure is done with an application of warm wax directly to the skin. The hair is then removed from the roots using a paper waxing strip by pulling against the hair growth, taking the unwanted hairs with it. Suitable for all areas.
You may notice mild redness and slight irritation to the freshly waxed areas, these side effects are normal and temporary. For the majority of clients, any side effects will last from under an hour to a day or so on the more sensitive skin and areas. Maintaining a waxing schedule is very important because over time the hair will weaken and release from the follicle with more ease and your growth will begin to thin out.
Treatment is not recommended if any of the following apply: hairs are too short, sunburn, irritated/infected/damaged/broken skin, rosacea, severe varicose veins, lupus, receiving radiation therapy, recent scarring (within the last 6 months), laser resurfacing (within the past year), professional peels (within the last 2 years). For injectable fillers you will need to wait 2 weeks post treatment. Waxing is not advisable when using some skin preparations or taking certain medication.
Medication that can cause immune suppression or skin sensitivity are known factors to make skin more susceptible to damage, bruising and lifting, leaving the area red and sore, causing a scab to form. The facial area is more delicate than the body although any area of the body can be affected. Oral/topical steroids and antibiotics can effect the strength of your skin and you should wait 2 – 6 weeks after stopping medication to make sure it is out of your system. Checking the medication leaflet or seeking medical advise is recommended.
Medications for blood thinning, auto immune disease and Lupus are all known to cause the skin to become more sensitive and delicate.
Allow 2 weeks after receiving a COVID vaccination prior to treatment.
If currently using any of the following prescription medications you will need to stop 3 months before a waxing treatment: Acne medications such as Adapalene, Avage, Differin, Isotretinoin, Tazarac, Tazarotene, Retin A (including Alustra, Avita, Renova, Tretinoin), Azelex peeling agent, Clindamycin, Doxycycline, Erythromycin, Madifloxicine, Metronidazole, Prednisone or Tetracycline.
Any of the following can make your skin more vulnerable: Retinol, any acid based product over 8% such as Alpha Hydroxy Acids, glycolic/lactic/salicylic acids. The area will need to be avoided for several months before safe waxing can be ensured. If less than 8%, stop use at least 3 days before.
